We make every product in-house from
scratch, using only the finest ingredients. Our first priority
is that our products be a pleasure to use and work for the
intended purpose. Secondly, they must be made as naturally
as possible: Our lotions do not contain synthetic thickening
or “slip” agents or other chemicals commonly found
in lotions. Instead, we use a combination of premium oils and
butters to produce penetrating rich, thick moisturizers with
more skin nutrients; our liquid soaps do not contain any synthetic
lather boosters—we just use a higher soap-to-liquid ratio.

About our Handmade Soap
There are two basic types of handmade soaps: transparent “melt and pour” decorative
soaps, and “cold process” soaps. Transparent soaps have a high
amount of glycerin which makes them far superior to supermarket soap, but they
have zero excess fats left in them. We make all our bar soap using the cold
process method. Even though it is much more time consuming, we choose this
200-year-old process because we are able to control every ingredient in the
soap and the amount of oils and butters left in the soap that remain available

About our Natural Lotion,
Body Butter& Salve
We take a natural approach to our
natural skin care, because what goes on your skin goes into
your bloodstream. The skin is the largest breathing organ on
your body, so why not treat it with care? Here's some popular
ingredients in mass-produced lotions and creams that you WON'T
find in our natural lotions, butters and creams:
- NO Mineral
Oil (highly synthetic). We
use only vegetable oils and butters.
- NO Isopropyl
Palmitate (a synthetic moisturizer). We
use natural moisturizers.
- Besides water,
these are the top two ingredients of B & B
Works lotions.
- NO Glyceryl
Stearate (a wax-like thickening
agent). We use more butters.
- NO Cetyl
Alcohol (a fatty alcohol used
as a thickening agent). We use shea
and cocoa butters for this.
- NOTE: Besides
water, fragrance and stearic acid, the
above synthetics are the top four ingredients
in B & B Works lotions.
- NO Propylene
Glycol (used to maintain moisture
in cosmetics and is also used in antifreeze
and deicing products). We make small
batches and do not need this synthetic.
- NO Isopropyl
Misitrate (another synthetic
moisturizer). Again, we let oils
and butters provide this benefit.
- NO
Cyclomethicone or other silicone
additives. Instead of these "slip" agents,
we use nourishing organic whole oils
and butters!
- NO Parabens
(methyl, propyl, butyl, and
ethyl) - Used
as inhibitors of microbial growth and
to extend shelf life of products. Widely
used even though they are known to be
toxic. Have caused many allergic reactions
and skin rashes. Highly toxic. We
use a milder preservative in very low
concentrations (less than 1/2 a percent),
and only when oil and water are combined.
Gardener's Butter Balm has zero preservatives,
for instance. Same with our Natural Skin
Scrubs.
